Hyperealistic Artist Kelvin Okafor did a beautiful artwork of Bob Dylan with a heart touching message.
"Bob Dylan was truly an enigma of a being to capture. Even after 575 hours ‘completing’ a portrait drawing of him, lpresence that has left me feeling compelled to discover more.
A special thank you to legendary filmmaker and photographer, Jerry Schatzberg for granting me the permission and rights to use his photograph to reference my drawing from. No one really saw Bob Dylan the way he did.I chose to predominantly reference a photograph of Bob Dylan taken by a photographer who became one of his closest friends, Jerry Schatzberg. Having not met Bob personally, felt I could ‘see’ him through Jerry’s lens.
The photograph Jerry Schatzberg took was taken between 1965 and 1966. This was during the “Highway 61 Revisited” and “Blonde On Blonde” albums of Bob Dylan. I was particularly drawn to this era as I personally felt that Bob was becoming (or had become) the instrument he was destined to be.
I’m extremely grateful for the privilege of being granted permission by Jerry Schatzberg to reference his work. At 95 years of age, he is a legend in the photography industry.
Be sure to read Jerry’s book “Dylan”. This book features a compelling collection of photographs of Bob Dylan taken between that 1965 and 1966 period I referenced the drawing from. The book provides a rare and intimate glimpse into the many facets of Bob Dylan."
